Portland Sheep

Our yarn is woollen spun and is c. 110m per 50g. Swatches should be knitted 20 stitches over 28 rows to 4" square and the best size needle is 4mm (UK8 US6). The fleeces are hand sorted, then washed and dried. For your splash and dash ranges a percentage of Black Welsh Mountain is then added to the Portland to change the white fibre to a pale silver or grey. The fibre is then blended and carded for an even colour before being woollen spun.

Once it is spun it is plied, hanked and washed for a second time. After this is wound into 50g balls and packed ready for dispatch.

We are delighted to announce that you can now purchase our own Portland Sheep wool. It will be possible to purchase the wool via the website in the near future and we have listed below the two shops that are kindly selling the wool.

There is also an order form that you can download here.
